Classes & Events

Throughout the years, I have offered various photography classes and photo walks for adults and kids. I have also facilitated several outdoor adventure events. Some of the classes and events that I’ve put on in the past include Intro to DSLR Cameras, Sip & Click, Photo Walks, Toy Photography, Hike the Mitten (family friendly hiking group), White Lake Wheelies (after school mountain bike club), Ride & Shine (women’s bike ride event) and a Glow Roll Bike Parade. This year, I have a few new and old ideas that I’m putting together. Information will be posted here as details fall into place.

Photo Walks

Join me for an upcoming photo walk!

These are designed for photographers of all skill levels with any kind of camera.

Each photo walk focuses on building a new skill in a fun, encouraging environment. Recommended for ages 14+.

Upcoming photo walks:

January – Winter Landscapes at Ludington State Park – Capture dreamy, winter wonderland scenes while exploring some of my favorite spots up at Ludington State Park. Fingers crossed for snow!

April – Get up close with nature at Duck Lake State Park – We’re on the hunt for the small, hidden wonders of the woods. Moss, mushrooms, lichen, bark, dew drops and anything else we might find if we look close enough.

May – Capturing the curious, playful world of your child at Muskegon State Park – Documentary and lifestyle photography are a favorite of mine and I’m often asked how I capture so many natural, in the moment photographs of my children. Bring your little one and join me and my 4-year-old for a short, family friendly hike while I share my favorite tips and we capture special moments of our little ones exploring nature.

June – Sunset Lighthouse Walk at the White River Light Station – On this photo walk we are exploring all things composition with the beautiful scenery of the lighthouse, pier and Lake Michigan shoreline.

July – Urban Photo Walk – Unleash your creativity as we explore shapes, lines and textures around town.

Wooly Bear Hikes

Being out in nature is so good for kids! It reduces stress, anxiety and depression, improves emotional regulation, builds confidence, increases creativity, provides hands on learning while activating their sense of touch, sight, sound and smell and gets them moving their bodies. Spending time in nature also helps children to become good stewards of the environment.

I spent a lot of years working and volunteering in outdoor based education. It’s something that I love to do and share with others. Eight years ago, I started a local family friendly meetup group. A couple times a month, I’d lead family friendly hikes at local trails for families who wanted to get out and explore but felt more comfortable doing so in a group setting. It was so much fun exploring new places with all of our new hiking friends. Then the pandemic hit and slowed things down a bit. Then kids got bigger and into all the big kid activities and our group hikes slowly fizzled out.

Now that I have a younger child again who loves our morning nature walks, I’m going to be organizing family friendly hikes again. Wooly Bear Hikes are free meetups at local hiking trails where we let the kids explore at their own pace. Look for dates, locations and times for upcoming Wooly Bear meetups here.

Upcoming Wooly Bear Hikes:

  • April 24th at 9am at the Lions Park. Join us for a short, stroller friendly 1 mile walk through the woods as we listen for birds and use binoculars to spot migrating waterfowl on the river flats

ArtVenture Club

This summer we are going to be offering the ArtVenture Club for kids which infuses art with nature. Each week, we’ll meet at different natural spaces around the White Lake area to explore while finding inspiration for that week’s project. Stay tuned for details.

Wilder Women’s Weekend

Join me for the very first Wilder Women’s Weekend May 15-18, 2026, taking place at the farthest northwest corner of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula at one of my favorite places in the world, the Porcupine Mountains. Click here for all the details.
